Philip A. Ross, 66, of Okemos passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Phil was born July 11, 1950 to Richard and Muriel (Chapman) Ross.
After graduating from Bath High School, Phil served six years in the USAF 449th AMMS while simultaneously obtaining his BA in History from Lake Superior State University. Phil began his career in human resources and retired from the State of Michigan, Dept. of Corrections in 2001.

Philip A. Ross, 66, of Okemos passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Phil was born July 11, 1950 to Richard and Muriel (Chapman) Ross.
After graduating from Bath High School, Phil served six years in the USAF 449th AMMS while simultaneously obtaining his BA in History from Lake Superior State University. Phil began his career in human resources and retired from the State of Michigan, Dept. of Corrections in 2001.
Phil was the fortunate recipient of two organ transplants (heart, 1984; kidney 2005) and volunteered his time with the Michigan Gift of Life Organization speaking with college and high school classes regarding the value of organ donation. Phil was a quiet, quick-witted and remarkably courageous family man who was an inspiration to all who knew him. In his healthy years, he enjoyed climbing the dunes of Lake Michigan and walking the shorelines of Lake Superior. He was an avid reader, whose interests included; history, sports and politics.
Phil is survived by his loving wife Polly of 45 years, sons Jason Ross of Lansing and David Ross of Okemos; grandchildren, Evan and Tirzah Ross; brothers, Tim Ross, Mike (Mary) Ross and Jim Ross; sister and kidney donor, Anne (Doug) Winkel; brother-in-law, Lawrence Bumstead; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Bumstead; mother-in-law, Mary Kibble and numerous nieces and nephews. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David M. Ross.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the donors whose compassionate gifts gave Phil 32 additional years of life: the unknown heart donor and his family; his sister Anne for the donation of her kidney; as well as the doctors and healthcare workers who played such an attentive role in his life these past 32 years most importantly Richard P. Thiede, MD; Stanford University Medical Center and the University of Michigan Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 23, 2 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason, Michigan with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
